Richard continues to improve. He is out of the ICU and in Intermediate Care, which is just what its name says, more than regular hospital care, but not as intensive as the ICU. And he is off of the liquid diet and getting real food. Well, maybe that is giving hospital food a better reputation than it deserves. 
He has an oxygen tube, and lots of monitors still attached to him. A pair of therapists came by and took him for a walk. I think they may have spent more time getting all his cords disconnected from the room machinery and re-connected to portable monitors and oxygen tank than actually walking. But he walked all the way from one end of the hall to the other and back with only a couple of stops to rest. And then they did the disconnect/re-connect game again.
Richard’s nephew and wife came by for a visit for an hour or so. It was good to see them and it perked Richard up to have company.
He says he is ready to come home, but the doctors have other ideas. He is still very swollen, although his hands look nearly normal. We will just have to take things as they come.

ADD brought me here and then left me in a state of befuddlement…here’s how it happened:
Having lurked there for some time, I was well aware of the child /b/’s love affair with cats had produced (canIhascheezburger). I’d just never mustered the motivation to check it out until today. Seeing that site, I was immediately smitten and somewhat relieved to know there was a safe haven to withdraw to when the savagery of humanity starts to overwhelm me on /b/.
Once there, perusing the cheezburger images, one specific pic (widescreen ‘wai. no wai.’) really bestowed a hearty chuckle on me and I was compelled to learn more about who had tagged the caption.
In case you didn’t know, it was you. And thus I found myself here perusing your recent blog entries and killing my cheezburger buzz with all this talk of heart failure and ER’s and such (the duck joke helped tho).
Anyhow, reading this specific post, I was a bit flummoxed when, just as I thought I’d come to an understanding about the relationships of all parties involved, you went off and said Richard’s wife came by the hospital to see him.
Please to explain.

I am sorry if my life is a buzz-kill for you. I’m not real happy with it at the moment myself. Richard is indeed my husband. The visitors were Richard’s nephew and Richard’s nephew’s wife. Sorry if the lack of possessives in the original text left you floundering.

And DON’T let Richard out of that hospital until they say he can go. Relapses can and do happen. Tell him I’ll come and sit on him so he’ll stay put!! And I’m not sure he’d like that so much!
