Have you seen this? It’s an ad for a new show on the Weather Channel.

Does this drive you as nuts as it does me? Shouldn’t the people at the Weather Channel know that weather doesn’t exist in space? ”Weather” and “Space” are mutually exclusive. Weather is an atmospheric phenomenon, and Space is the absence of atmosphere. I don’t have a degree in meteorology or astrophysics, but I am pretty sure of my grasp of the facts. It makes me want to storm into their studio and scream at them, “There is no Space Weather, you morons!!“
Well, there are solar storms and there is a solar wind (of sorts). I’m with you; they’re taking the wrong line in presenting a science show as a “Don’t think, just watch in awe” tactic and no doubt it will be full of special video effects (read: switching images every second or two) and end to end special audio effects (read: whooshing noises and computer sounds, ad nauseum). Any human speaking to camera will be limited to three seconds at a time which is about the limit of our modern concentration period.
Aside from that, I have no opinion one way or the other ……
Historically, things like cosmic ray bursts from stars have been described as “storms”.
Aside from that, I’m with the opinions expressed sp far.
Yep, yep – ai agrees wif you. Da only “storm” ai’z aware ob onna planet iz Jupiter wif it’z “great red spot”, which from all reports ai’ve heard lately, is disappearing.
