Rolling down the Road

Bullhead City was ok, but a little too hot, so we left this morning. Yesterday we made an appointment at a lube joint to get the motorhome serviced before we left. So we were up at 😯 5 am so we could be at the lube joint when they opened up. While the motorhome was getting its oil changed, we had breakfast at Perkins. We were on the road by 9.

We headed west out of Laughlin, up and over a pass to highway 95. It goes north across a dry lake bed. We went on around Las Vegas and continued on 95 through the Mojave Desert. The Mojave is different than the Sonora Desert; it doesn’t have saguaro cactus or Joshua trees, just lots of creosote bushes. We saw lots of flowers along the edge of the highway. Some were a pretty purple that reminded me of creeping phlox. And there were two different yellow flowers and some white ones, too. The highway is fairly level as it passes between the mountains.

We are now at Beatty, Nevada. Its nice and cool here. Somewhere on the other side of the mountains to the east of us is Area 51. Just to the southwest of us is Death Valley and a ghost town named Rhyolite. We will stick around here a couple of days and make some day trips to see the sights.
