Yesterday was Thursday. We did some major house cleaning. I even shampooed the carpet and then cleaned the carpet shampooer.
So today was our turn for some fun! First we went to Perkins for breakfast and had yummy omelets. Next, we went to the local Farmer’s Market. We got some green onions, radishes, raspberries and home-made sauerkraut.
Since it was such a nice day we decided to go for a drive. We headed downstream on Hwy 61. It is a lovely road that runs along the Mississippi with lush green hills and tidy houses. The Mississippi widens downstream from Red Wing and becomes Lake Pepin.
We passed through Lake City where water skiing was invented, and reached Wabasha, where Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men were filmed. We saw signs for the National Eagle Center. We had never heard of it before, but we couldn’t pass it up. We got to see 3 live bald eagles, up close and personal!
Then we crossed over the River into Wisconsin and headed back upstream. Highway 35 runs up the Wisconsin shore through more tiny villages. We stopped at a roadside stand and got some sweet corn, new potatoes, and tomatoes.
We didn’t get home until a little after 4. Just in time for dinner! Richard cooked some brats and the kraut on the grill and I boiled the sweetcorn and fixed potatoes with sour cream and garlic. We also had tomatoes, radishes and onions. Delicious!!
