Sandy

Sandy-cat was a real character who knew how to enjoy life. She even LIKED to be outside in the Minnesota winter!! (I had to put hand lotion on her little paw-pads in the winter to keep them from cracking.) But mostly she liked to have me open the door to let her in or out. She especially liked to get let in the back door so she could walk through the kitchen and living room and have me let her out the front door. Hence the following poem:

Sandy

The cat goes in and out
Singing her Springtime song
Of rolling in the new grass
And following a beetle
Walking through our garden.

The cat goes in and out
Singing her Summer song
Of sleeping in the peaceful shade
And leaping at the butterflies
Who’ve come to see our garden.

The cat goes in and out
Singing her Autumn song
Of disassembling leaf piles
And stalking all the field mice
Living in our corn.

The cat goes in and out
Singing her Winter song
Of racing through the snow
And sleeping in a patch of sun
Shining in our window.

The cat goes in and out
